LAST WILL OF HANNAH KNOWLES - 1828LONG ISLAND, BAHAMASPLEASE NOTE THAT THE UNDERLINED WORDS ARE MY BEST POSSIBLE GUESS.In the name of God Amen - This Sixth day of September in the year of our LordOne thousand eight hundred and twenty-eight.I, HANNAH KNOWLES of Long Island and parish of Saint Paul's one of the BahamaIslands aforesaid widow - being of weak state of body but of perfect memory, thanksbe given to God - therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed to all mankind once to die, Do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament. That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God, that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in Sacred Christian Burial at the discretion of my children or appearing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the almighty favour of God.And as my Worldly Estate wherewith it hath feleated God to blessme in this life, I give, desire and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.First, I give and bequeath to my FIVE CHILDREN herein after mentioned - my Daughters MARY RATTRAY and ANN SUSANNAH RAHMING my SonsCHARLES, WILLIAM and ABRAHAM the following negros to be extra and abovetheir proportions herewith after Willed and bequeathed, namely I give and bequeathto my daughter MARY RATTRAY, a negro man named Frank and a negro girlnamed Miney, her first child a girl named Georgina Eliza, and second child a boynamed Thomas Richard these two children of Miney I give freedom to for certainconditions, in lieu of the first I give my daughter MARY a negro boy, named Sam,all the future issue of the woman Miney falls to my daughter MARY RATTRAY to mydaughter ANN S. To my son CHARLES a negro man namedEdinborough and a negro girl named Hannah with all her issue. To my son WILLIAM a negro man named Black Sam, and a negro woman named Dinahwith all her present and future issue also another negro named Sam Wilson. Tomy son ABRAHAM a Negro man named Quamana and a negro woman named Oplbe with her present and future issue. I also give and bequeath to my sonsALEXANDER, THOMAS and JOSEPH (deceased) children, the followingnegros to be an extra and above their portion herein after Willed and bequeathednamely to my son ALEXANDER a negro boy named Benjamin and a negro girlnamed Mary with all her issue. To my son THOMAS a negro man named Deal,to my son JOSEPH's children a negro man named Cuffy and further I give andbequeath to my son ABRAHAM a negro boy named Mingo - to them and theirheirs forever, but the above mentioned negros are not to be sold, mortgaged orin any wise encumbered by debts and in case any of the above mentioned childrenof mine should die without issue lawfully begotten, then and in that case their said partis to revert to my family to be equally divided amongst the whole of the surviving -WILL OF HANNAH KNOWLESLONG ISLAND, BAHAMAScontinuedSecondly - I give and bequeath to my six sons, and two daughters the remainingpart of my property namely - to my son ALEXANDER a negro man named Jennings.To my son CHARLES a negro man named Mingo. To my son THOMAS a negrowoman named Patience and a boy (her son) named Charles. To my son JOSEPH deceased children a Negro woman named Kate. To my son WILLIAM my dwelling house and improvements on the place called the Crossing Hill. To my daughters MARY RATTRAY my large feather bed. To my daughter ANNSUSANNAH RAHMING my chest of drawers, bedstead, large dining table and acertain sorrel colored Mare and her colt and future inertia. To my granddaughterHANNAH C. RAHMING a certain gray Mare called Jenny with the future inertia.Also, I give and bequeath to my six sons, ALEXANDER, THOMAS, CHARLES,JOSEPH deceased CHILDREN, WILLIAM, AND ABRAHAM and to my two daughtersMARY RATTRAY and ANN S.
