Richard Hamilton - Midwife in the Islands |
Richard Hamilton was, according to depositions, the son of a Choctaw Indian and his owner, William Edwards. Edwards was
a Portuguese plantation owner from Georgia who migrated to Ocala, Florida in the late 1800’s. Richard lived in Pine
Level (Arcadia), FL, the Ten Thousand Islands, and in Key West. He was known as a renegade, a midwife, and reportedly died
past the age of 100!
